When I think of Galway, a few distinct places come to my mind. An Cladach meaning “stoney shore” is one such place. It is commonly known in English as The Claddagh and is most recognisable for its soulful terrace of colours, its historic fishing village and of course the claddagh ring whose origin is a story for another day – Very interesting I assure you.

The Claddagh for me is definetly a place that inspires. I don’t think many people say that about their home town.

No matter where I reside, you will find me by the sea (or close by… as big a lake as lake Geveva is about the smallest body of water I will live beside … )

Water and nature in my opinion have the ability to make the most ordinary spaces seem extraordinary and I know I always say that but it is true, and certainly true in the case of The Claddagh.

The Claddagh can be one of the most vibrant places in the city or it can be the most calm, depending what is happening and what sounds you allow filter through your ears. Even beneath the soothing hum of this energetic place lies a certain tranquility. The noises escape you especially when rooted beneath the canopy of this tree.

This perch is a place of reflection for me. I have countless photographs of this place and I’ve done some paintings too. I have posted in this blogpost a select few. I like to capture everyday moments and it is this everyday magic that really is the essence of my photographs and indeed all the work I do.
